5-Factor Diet

By Donna Sundblad

Although he originally created it for celebrities, the 5 Factor Diet creator Harley Pasternak now offers his weight loss plan to the general public through his books and the internet.

How the 5 Factor Diet Originated

Celebrities challenged Pasternak to design an effective yet healthy diet that could fit into their hectic lifestyle. The challenge was upped as he had to pull together a workout plan and training schedule to fit within the actors' short breaks on set. Here are the hurdles he had to overcome in designing the 5 Factor Diet:

·         Create healthy meals in a matter of minutes

·         Use simple ingredients that could fit in a mini refrigerator

·         Create recipes that can be prepared in a blender or toaster oven

Available Online

One of the reasons diets often fail is that dieters don't have the time it takes to weigh, measure and prepare meals. Harvey Pasternak's plan is designed to fit into small allotments of time. Today, he's made it even easier, because the 5 Factor Diet is now available as an interactive, customized program online. This online version provides the tools dieters need to stay motivated and track progress. These tools include:

·         Activity Calculator

·         Cooking Shortcuts

·         Custom Fitness Plan

·         Daily Inspiration

·         Daily Meal Planner

·         Eating Out Guide

·         Food Log

·         Hundreds of Recipes

·         Ideal Weight Calculator

·         Message Boards

·         Online Journal

·         Personal Recipe Box

·         Shopping List Tool

·         Weight Tracker

The Number Five

The 5 Factor Diet includes a success log to chart progress, presents inspiring stories from real people including testimonials from some of Hollywood's hottest stars, and a 5-week diet program that can be summed up in fives:

5-Week Plan

As you may have guessed, the 5-week plan is fashioned to promote results that can be seen within five weeks.

5 Meals a Day

One of the reasons this diet is said to work is because it requires eating five 5-Factor meals each day. This eliminates hunger and cravings and results in weight loss.

5-ingredient Meals

Hundreds of 5-ingredient recipes are made available to 5 Factor Diet members. Shopping lists are provided to help in preparation and planning, and these meals are not only delicious but easy to make and designed to take only five minutes to prepare! Here are a few samples of recipes available:

·         Chicken and Black Bean Quesadillas

·         Curried Chicken with Brown Rice

·         Egg and Turkey Bacon Sandwich

·         Salmon with Cucumber-Dill Salad

·         Sea Scallops with Orange Sauce

25-minute Workouts

Based on Pasternak's training experience, he came to the conclusion that it is more effective to work out often for briefer periods of time rather than hours at the gym. In his Five Factor Fitness book, Pasternak includes a bonus chapter of 5-Factor Fitness workouts plus sample 5-minute workout moves to use in order to maximize diet results in these 25-minutes-per-day workouts spanning the 5 weeks. The exercises are not only easy but convenient like the rest of the plan.

5 cheat days in 5 weeks

Cheat days are days are allowed once a week. Pasternak came up with this idea to make sure followers of the diet didn't feel like they were in diet prison. The concept behind this cheat day is that "controlled cheating" can help a dieter reach their fitness goals. One day each week dieters can enjoy favorites like french fries, ice cream and pizza without feeling guilty.

Why It Works

The average person doesn't live the life of a Hollywood star, but they still face the same kinds of time constraints. By the time you get off work, have to make dinner for the family, run children to various sports events or lessons, trying to lose weight moves lower on the list of priorities and often gets lost. Losing weight does not have to be the impossible dream even if you live a busy life. The 5 Factor Diet makes it possible to eat healthier, exercise and noticeably shape up between obligations like meetings, soccer games, chores and even much-needed sleep. This diet is designed to fit a hectic schedule so if you're ready to lose weight, don't let limited time or space the excuse that stops you.

The 5-week plan is easy to follow (even lets you cheat), and for some becomes a way of eating for life.
